Owerri Zone Leaders In Historic Convergence, Launch United Platform and Reaffirm Support for Charter of Equity



Owerri Zone witnessed a major political convergence on February 15, 2026, as leaders cutting across party affiliations and social strata gathered to chart a common course for the zone and the future of Imo State.

The meeting, held at the residence of Prince Charls Amadi (Charlvon), was described by attendees as a very well packed event, drawing political leaders, professionals, business executives, traditional rulers, members of academia, clergy, women and youth leaders, socio-cultural organisations, and citizens from all political parties and divides. The gathering culminated in the formation of Owerri Zone United as a collective voice for the zone.



At the end of the deliberations, the assembly issued a communiqué which stated:

“On this 15th day of February, 2026, a historic assembly of political leaders, professionals, business leaders, traditional rulers, academia, clergy, women & youth leaders, socio-cultural organizations, and citizens from all walks of life and political parties from Owerri Zone, Imo State, Nigeria convened at the residence of Prince Charls Amadi (Charlvon) wherein, OWERRI ZONE UNITED was birthed as the unifying voice of Owerri Zone. After deliberate discussions, we resolved and adopted the following:”

Reaffirming Loyalty to Governor Uzodimma

The first resolution expressed unwavering support for Governor Hope Uzodimma and the Imo Charter of Equity.

“1. Support for His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma

We reiterate our unwavering support for His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, Executive Governor of Imo State, the courageous author and principal promoter of the historic Imo Charter of Equity. We also acknowledge the wisdom of the Imo State council of elders, the Clergy and the State House of Assembly for bringing the Charter into existence.”

Applauding Unprecedented Internal Unity

The communiqué emphasized the rare level of coordination among political and social interests in the zone.

“2. Historic Unity of Owerri Zone Political and Social Structures

We commend the unprecedented unity among various political, leaders and groups, technocrats, administrators, social blocs, stakeholders, and interest groups across Owerri Zone, working together in strategic coordination. This unity reflects political maturity, sacrifice, and a shared understanding that Owerri Zone's destiny supersedes personal interests.”

Endorsing the Governor’s Leadership Vision

Participants also aligned themselves with the Governor’s broader governance philosophy and transition plans.

“3. Respect for the Governor's Vision

We are aware of the Governor's vision for Imo State, where every segment contributes to leadership and development. We support this vision, particularly his commitment to a smooth transition to a new government in of Imo State to be led by an Owerri Zone person. We will partner with him and all stakeholders to achieve this.”

Call for Order and Focus

The group urged restraint and unity among sons and daughters of the zone as political activities continue.

“4. Discipline and Responsible political activities

We urge Owerri Zone sons and daughters to maintain civility in their political activities.

We urge our people to remain focused, steadfast and supportive of the Owerri zone Governorship project while praying for His Excellency, the Governor of Imo State State to be divinely guided in good health, wisdom and courage to fulfill this vision.”

Recognising Achievements of the Administration

Governor Uzodimma’s administration was commended for developmental strides across sectors.

“5. Recognition of Transformational Leadership

We acknowledge Governor Uzodinma's remarkable achievements, including infrastructural renewals, institutional reforms, security interventions, and economic repositioning.

We salute his leadership which has impacted every corner of the state including the economic summit and recent historic recognitions of sons and daughters of the state at the 50th anniversary celebration of the creation of Imo State.”

Strengthening Statewide Solidarity

Owerri Zone United also reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration with other zones in Imo State.

“6. Strengthening Brotherhood Across Zones

We will continue to strengthen cooperation and collaborations with our sister zones of Orlu and Okigwe. We shall continue to deepen trust, unity, and mutual understanding. We extend our brotherly and sisterly handshake to them.

Owerri Zone firmly believes that the progress of our State is paramount. To this end the peace, stability, and prosperity of the State depend on genuine collaboration amongst the three zones.”

Final Declaration

The communiqué concluded with a firm pledge:

“Conclusion

We therefore unequivocally reaffirm our united collective commitment to the authorship of the Charter of Equity by His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma.

We shall partner with him in the achievement of this vision.”

The communiqué was signed by Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho; Prince Dr. Alex Mbata; Prince Charls Amadi; Dr. Shah Azu Okorie; Ambassador Dr. (Mrs.) Kema Chikwe; and Chief Charles Ogu.

Political watchers say the cross-party attendance and unified resolutions signal a significant moment in the evolving discourse around equity, zoning, and leadership succession in Imo State.
